  • 2 million plastic bottles are used in the U.S. every 10 minutes.
  • 51 billion plastic bottles go into U.S. landfills every year.
  • 3 billion plastic bottles recycled is the equivalent of saving over half a million barrels of oil and eliminating 400,000 tons of harmful air emissions which contribute to acid rain, global warming and smog.
  • Recycling pre-consumer cotton helps to keep 5 billion pounds of waste from going into U.S. landfills.

  • Recycled cotton doesn’t take the manual labor or land use that is required for conventionally grown cotton. It takes twice as much land usage to produce the same amount of organic cotton as conventionally grown cotton.
  • The majority of the organic cotton is produced in Asia and shipped to the U.S. offsetting any environmental benefits due to the transportation resulting carbon footprint.

Yeah sounds like you guys are really doing a lot for the environment but where do you get recycled cotton from in the U.S.A.?

Dave it depends, everything is made in the US but we cannot get recycled cotton domestically as there are not enough cut and sew factories left in the US to provide enough scrap to make the yarn. So our raw material comes from Spain and in sourced outta eastern Europe. Our poly comes from the U.S. For European production we have been sourcing from Sri Lanka as well as the US because some of the garment makeup is too labor intensive and production has left the US. Originally we wanted everything 100% US made but we couldn’t get everything we wanted done. So for AW2011 we will have an even broader line of goods coming from both the US and overseas. Currently everyting we produce is still 100% US made. Great question. Needless to say it has been a long and winding road and sometimes a very difficult one trying to make the most eco-friendly gear out there.
